We set out on our grand, autumn adventure with a stop point that was a short drive from home. It featured an extremely child-friendly campground, and of course — because apparently we like setting ourselves up with high standards at the beginning of our journeys — a trip to the zoo.
The Bromont KOA (like all KOAs, as far as we can tell) was stocked with free showers, playgrounds with climbing structures, slides and swings aplenty, extremely friendly staff, and of course the all-important “jumping pillow”.
All this was next to their little lake with a roped off swimming area. It was late in the season, so sadly the lake was too cold to swim in (though we did have some fun spotting giant snails with conical shells, along with tadpoles), and the camp ground was very quiet — no contention at all on the pillow! The next day the staff blew our minds by giving us a ride to and from the zoo — about 20 minutes away. We definitely made the most of that day!
All in all, a very fun start to the trip, though we were a little concerned that after that first day at the zoo we wouldn’t be able to keep up the pace…
