Been sitting on a couple lunches for awhile now!
This first one was from last week sometime, and carried me from breakfast (…well, alright: second breakfast) to my mid-afternoon snack. That top-middle lump with the dab of caramel, if you don’t recognize it, is a kouignette, or a miniature version of a Kouign-Amann cake. If you haven’t tried it, all I can say is What Are You Waiting For?! It is the buttery, sugary confection of French pastry dreams.
…needless to say, I try not to buy them too often.
This next (fittingly sunny yellow!) bento represents a glorious thing indeed — my first lunch this summer eaten out of doors! (With good company too!) I hadn’t realized while packing it (again with the not-quite-leftovers found in our fridge) quite how yellow it was overall but it was tasty, so let’s not worry about that.
I feel like in general this past month we’ve been eating a fair number of cold-weather meals: pâté chinois, soups, perogies, mac ‘n’ cheese, pâté au saumon… a lot of heavier, comfort-y foods. We have a had a cold spell, which explains some of it, but we’ve also had a number of hot-sun days too. I do have a salad planned for tonight though, so maybe we’ll turn it around this weekend. Ah, delicious spring-time eating! Looking forward to seeing the composition of the bentos change as summer sweeps into town!
