This bento was not from this week. While I did pack myself lunches, all of them were microwavey, so I decided to pull up a bento from a little earlier this winter.
Pretty basic — green onion omelette/tamagoyaki rolls, celery kinpira, cooked carrot+cabbage slaw, along with rice. Fruit and cookies in the other dish of the container. (Did I match the colour of the muffin cups to the fruit on purpose? Of course. That was totally a perk while packing this!)
Some container noodling:
I have to say that while I appreciate the convenience of having (almost) the entirety of my bring-to-work food in one container… I’m not convinced it’s worth it. For one thing, the rounded “corner” at the bottom of these bowls actually makes it a little tricky to pack stuff in without it sliding around. For another, because I will always be bringing along cutlery at the very least, and most likely yoghourt, granola, and tea stuffs… it’s not like I can just walk into work with this one container (which does have carrying handles on its lid) anyway. So since I’m still taking in a lunch bag…. why not use my myriad other (easier to pack) containers? I do like the cuteness of having a two-tier bento… but for a work day lunch, the main driver seems to be to stave off boredom with my beloved glass rectangular box.
Possibly if I were packing picnic finger foods (or, hey, a cutlery-free in-car meal for The Boy and I?) this box would be something to consider. I’d need to do the math to see if it’s big enough, but actually I like the idea of giving this a test drive (ha!) on our next roadtrip.
