The Boy would no doubt state that society’s obsession with the number 3 is just an overused literary device, and hey, he might be right, but it’s a convenient number that just so happens to match the number of things I want to post about (briefly). So here goes:
1 – Knit stuffs.
I also defeated my short attention span by finishing up those languishing Jaywalkers. After a couple days on the weekend of dreamily wishing I could start that third hat, I pulled ahead with a burst of determination and lo! I have comfy new socks to show for it!
So that’s some nice progress to report. I’m at work on the third hat now (a fairly simple ribbed affair) and should be done well in time to get one last mini-project in before February hits.
2 – Book club book for February
So having co-opted Rachel into reading children’s books, she’s now shaming me by finishing it way before I have, and doing her write-up too! (I am, as of this post, on Chapter 6 of the book. I know, shame.)
Rachelle is also way ahead of the curve on her choice for February’s book, When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead. I’m pretty stoked at how this is going because I’m definitely enjoying Un Lun Dun (which I would never have picked up if I’d walked past it), and February’s book looks very promising too!
(I suppose it helps that all of us have a bit of a sci-fi/fantasy lean to our choices. Nothing wrong with that though!)
So the moral of the story is… you gals are awesome and I’m glad you’re participating. Also, I’m a slacker and need to pick it up on the reading front. (But I’m so busy knitting!)
3 – A little music and friends
We had the chance this past weekend to see a friend perform in a band at a pub and it was a really nice night out! First, the pub itself was delicious: gorgeous decor in a tiny nook-filled place with quite reasonable food. Maria and I did disagree about some of the decorations though; what do you think — soup tureens or chamberpots?
Then, of course, there was the music. Although he didn’t play the harmonica, Mike impressed us all by playing a vast array of instruments: accoustic guitar, bass, maracas and — most soulfully — tambourine.
It was a fun night out and The Boy and I are already plotting heading back for brunch sometime. Definitely a good find, that pub, although to be honest there aren’t many visits to that town where we find we’re disappointed. (Their Home Depot, for example, nearly always has something spectacular in the clearance section, or super-helpful folks who manage to finally help you figure out something you’ve been puzzling over for awhile.)
So, Wednesday challenge! Three things going on in your life this (or last) week?
