Although we celebrated it a little earlier in the week, it’s definitely worth remembering and repeating: Happy Birthday Dad!
It’s a shame my dad couldn’t stay for the weekend (we’re headed for the scotch tasting at the Food & Wine show!), but I am glad that he came up to visit, and despite the fact that both he and The Boy were surprised when I announced that I was baking an ale cake (…duh?), they both agreed it was quite tasty.
It was. I’m still in shock, a little, over how the two of them possibly thought we were going to celebrate a birthday without a birthday cake. Or singing. I mean really.
As an aside, this cake is fast becoming one of my go-to cakes, although this is the first time I frosted it with a cream cheese frosting. While it makes a much better “head” on the cake, I really dislike the flavour. Next time I’ll either go with my standard whipped cream frosting or, if I’m not feeling lazy (likelihood: low), I might try a buttercream.
Anyway, enough about the cake. Thanks again, Dad, for visiting! Have a wonderful (hopefully non-rainy) birthday — and set something on fire! It’s your birthday, they might let you get away with it!
P.S. And stop slacking off on your novel — I can see your static wordcount! Love, fishy.
