Or: the Happy Potato Edition!
I think this week’s haul was kind of small, but I’m willing to overlook that, because it included Potatoes! Farmer Gord describes them as “new potatoes”, but I always thought new ones were the teensy potatoes of the impatient? Maybe it just means they haven’t overwintered in the ground? No idea. Looking forward immensely to eating them which, in combination with my family’s Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, means a whole LOT of potato-eating in the coming week.
Anyway, other stuff: tomatoes (surprising! Mine have all turned to frost!), crook-neck squash, something-tiger squash (?), carrots, radishes (chosen over Swiss chard) and parsley!
I’m a little sad that I got the parsley just in time to leave town for four days, but hopefully it’ll survive its weekend in the fridge. I did actually end up using some of it (delicious!) in a quickie tabouleh for mini-naan wraps made for our drive. The Boy proclaimed them to be delicious, and chided me for not making more. Well then.
So, meal plan-type things? I really have just the three ideas at the moment, which works well, since it’ll be a short week for my kitchen:
Idea 1: Bakad potatis. I don’t know if you can tell from the photo, but some of these potatoes are huge — definitely Bakad worthy. I’m going to try for a curried chicken Potatis, inspired by the restaurant in Malmö.
Idea 2: Chili night. I actually wanted to do this the past week, but everything got upturned a bit with some impromptu visiting, so next week, it is! Other bonus to this? With any luck, I’ll have a small freezer stash of delicious cornbread muffinlings.
Idea 3: Warm salad. Currently featuring things like pan-fried radishes, roasted peppers (mine are finally red now!), possibly some gooey cheesiness, and probably more potato. Bacon maybe? Or roast meat (read: turkey leftovers)? Time will tell.
That’s about it for the planning. I’m actually quite happy that the CSA is still delivering. I suspect next week or the week after will be the last ones, but I’d figured that 16 or 17 weeks was what I’d get out of it, so that seems reasonable.
