We’re home, safe, our luggage made it despite a lot of confusion in Frankfurt, which by the way, I recommend against flying through, if you have the choice. It might just be the construction work (they’re rebuilding some gates), or it might be general disorganization and incompetence. In either case, we have yet to have a good experience at the Frankfurt airport.
That said, however, I feel it very necessary to document that The Boy and I saw Daniel Alfredsson *, who was partially the inspiration for the whole hockey pilgrimage in the first place, at the Frankfurt airport, with his family. He was on the same plane as us for the whole 8-and-a-half-hour ordeal! We got his autograph in the terminal, and spent the whole plane ride (and the lineup in customs afterwards, where we saw him again) giddy.
(For clarification, this was my first ever celebrity encounter, so I was extra giddy.)
* – For those not that into hockey, Alfredsson is the captain of the Ottawa Senators. Locally, he’s something of a cross between rockstar, super role model, and god. We felt bad interrupting him with his family (and even worse that the jersey we bought with his name and number on it was already checked!) to get an autograph but really… when were we going to get a second chance?
After all of that (and really, what better way to round out an already fantastic two weeks?) we came home to find our two kitties extremely happy and full of cuddles and purring. Big thanks to Lieff for being such an awesome house-sitter — we couldn’t have had such a perfect homecoming without your help! Thank you!
